A Comparison of Two Genres: Lexical Bundles in the Discourse of Applied Linguistics

The present article is a corpus-based descriptive/comparative study of lexical bundles (LBs) in two university genres: textbooks (TBs) and research articles (RAs) on applied linguistics. It aims to identify the LBs used genres, compare them basis their functional type frequency explore how they are related genre. To this end, four-word were identified corpora drawn from linguistics TBs RAs. comparative analysis revealed that there interesting differences between genres terms discourse functions: occurrence was lower than RAs; attitudinal/modality occurred more frequently epistemic RAs TBs; organizers time, place text reference almost twice as findings build into variations use functions discipline-specific corpora.
